December 21, 109 years of the discovery of radium

Радий Curie, Marie and Pierre (1867-1934) and (1859-1906), French physicist, Nobel Prize winners.

Marie and Pierre Curie were married. In the framework of joint research, they found himicheskie elements radium and polonium, and investigated their radiation. This study has been one of the foundations of modern nuclear physics.

Pierre Curie was born May 15, 1859 in Paris, he studied physics at the Sorbonne. In 1880, he studied with his brother Jacques electrical potential. The brothers opened a phenomenon pezoelektrichestva. Pierre Curie also discovered that the magnetic material (at a certain temperature (Curie point)) lose their magnetism.

Marie Curie (Ci), was born in November 1867 in Warsaw of a teacher of physics. In 1891 she went to Paris and enrolled at the Sorbonne. Two years later, she passed her final exam in physics, where she won first place. Marriage between Marie and Pierre Curie was held in 1895.

Мария Кюри Marie Curie was interested in the latest discoveries in the radiation. Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen discovered X-rays in 1895, 1896, Antoine Henri Becquerel discovered the element uranium with the same characteristics of the radiation. Family Curie nachala investigate the radiation of uranium. Pezoelektricheskie used procedures that are studied, Pierre Curie, studied the uranium-bearing ore. When Mary discovered that ore radiation was more intense than that of uranium, the Curie came to the conclusion that the ore is present even neizvestne elements, molecular mass exceeds the mass of uranium. Marie Curie gave the first term to describe the emission of radioactive elements which occurs in the process of splitting of atomic nuclei of light.

Pierre Curie ended his own work on magnetism to take part in the study of his wife, 1898 Curie announced the discovery of two new elements: polonium (named Mary in honor of Poland) and radium. Over the next four years, the Curie ton processed uranium ore from which they carefully extracted fraction of a gram of radium. In 1903 she got together with Becquerel the Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of radioactive elements. Marie Curie became the first woman to win the Nobel Prize.

Спортивная семья Кюри Pierre Curie was appointed in 1904 professor of physics at the Sorbonne, and in 1905 he was appointed a member of the French Academy. Such recognition could not be addressed to a woman, so that Mary was denied for similar honors. Pierre April 19, 1906 crush a horse and died of his wounds. His wife continued her work. In 1911 she received a second Nobel Prize (this was an unprecedented event), this time in chemistry, for her work on the study of radium and its compounds. In 1914 she became director of the Institute of Radium in Paris. She also made a contribution to the establishment of the Institute Curie. Marie Curie became ill zlokachestvennoy anemiey, which was caused by an overdose of radiation. In 1926, Marie Curie became an honorary member of the Academy of Sciences. She died on July 4, 1934.

At the Curie had two daughters, one of which is also a Nobel Laureate: Irene Joliot-Curie and her husband, Frederick received the 1935 Nobel Prize in chemistry for the synthesis of new radioactive elements.

Family Curie almost the only example in which several generations have died for the sake of science. Marie Curie, her daughter Irene and son Frederic Joliot-Curie died of radiation sickness, which they acquired by working with radioactive substances. Not many women are willing to devote themselves to science at the same time and raise children. Marie Curie, personally for me, is admirable. She dedicated her life to what would, she was able to reconcile work and home, rather cleverly, creating a "family contract" scientists.

What's interesting article turned out! Well done the author! :)

Of course, it's very impressive, self-sacrifice for the sake of science; nepotism in getting the Nobel Prize, and radiation sickness ...

Women in science - here's the result: the atomic bomb!

By the way, radio, and telephone them inventors conceived as a means of communicating with the other world. Such is the strange mixture of mysticism and materialism!

Yeah, sometimes people can not distinguish from the RADIO RADIYA. It is a pity that a man can not even understand about that reads or writes. And on the RADIO, too, is not correct, now the radio almost every phone has, listen to the radio from the "pioneers" to the elderly, but each has its own wave.

At one time it was a great discovery, which now, unfortunately, almost anyone and is not necessary. After all, radio is now only a unit, and it's more the older generation.
